Working With Madison Tree Service Pros

Madison Tree Service Pros takes down, prunes and grinds out trees for homeowners in Madison and the towns and villages around it, from Middleton and Shorewood Hills on the west side to Monona, McFarland and Sun Prairie on the east and Fitchburg and Verona to the south.

Every job starts with a visit to the tree. We look at what kind of tree it is, how it leans, where the dead wood is, whether there are cracks, cavities or fungus at the base, and, on ash, whether emerald ash borer has been at work. Then we look at what surrounds it: the house, the garage, fences, the neighbor's yard, the alley, overhead wires and the path a crew has to take to reach it. On the older blocks near the isthmus, where houses sit close together and backyards are small, access often decides how a tree comes down more than its height does.

We also sort out the rules before we quote. If the tree is an oak and the work would fall between April 1 and October 15, Madison requires a free permit from Urban Forestry, even for an oak in your own backyard, so we plan the timing with you. If the tree stands on the terrace between the sidewalk and the street, it belongs to the city, and we tell you to call Urban Forestry instead of hiring anyone. If limbs are tangled in MGE lines, the utility deals with the wires first.

After the visit you get a written quote. It lists each tree, what will be done to it, what happens to the wood and brush, whether the stump is included, and the price. Nothing is cut until you approve it, and if something changes once the work starts, for example hidden decay that changes how a trunk has to be lowered, we stop and agree on it with you before going on.

How we work

  • Each tree gets its own line on the quote: the task, the cleanup and the price.
  • Oaks are pruned in the dormant months whenever the work can wait.
  • Heavy limbs are lowered on ropes instead of dropped onto roofs, decks or gardens.
  • Lawns and driveways get plywood or mats under equipment where the ground is soft.
  • Logs stay in rounds, get cut to firewood length or leave with us, your choice.
  • After a storm, trees on houses and blocked doors or driveways come first.
  • You pay only for work you approved in writing.
